How to care for your hoop

Although hoops are durable, the taped finish can scratch or tear if used on hard, rough surfaces. However, with a few precautions, your hoop will last a very long time.

Best Practices:

  • Store your hoop in the open position (uncoiled and unfolded) for best results.
  • Hoop in the grass or over carpeting when possible.
  • When hoops are being stored, it is best to store them either flat under a bed or resting on the floor in an upright position. Avoid hanging your hoop as the weight of the tubing could potentially warp. If the tubing warps, you will be able to reshape the hoop with slight pressure while gently tugging on the frame to reform it into a circle.

What to Avoid:

  • Don’t use your hoop on concrete or hard surfaces. If the hoop is dropped or goes flying, the concrete will ding and scratch your tape. Over time, the hoop will need to be re-taped. The good news is, the hoop frame will still be usable.
  • Do not use in the rain or too close to water. The tape is not waterproof and will detach from the frame if wet or rained on.
  • Do not store your hoop in excessive heat (like the trunk of your car) as the tape will release and will be difficult to re-attach to the frame.
  • If your hoop folds into a figure 8 or infinity, it is best to allow the tube to rest in the open position prior to use. The hoop frame can warp if not stored properly.
  • If you have a folding hoop, do not open the connector – doing so could break the hoop.

A few things to consider:

  • Tape on damaged hoops can be replaced, however, it is best to avoid if possible.
  • A broken or bent hoop frame can also be repaired, but keep in mind that doing so will add a bit of weight to the repaired part of the hoop since additional hardware will be required to make the repair. This will also require the hoop to be retaped.

As you can see, caring for your hoop is very simple and straightforward. Using common sense will keep your hoop in tip top shape for a very long time. 🙂
