What to wear while hooping
Although you can wear anything you want while hooping, there are a few things you will want to keep in mind that will not only enhance your hooping experience, but will also ensure a safe and effective hoop dance session.
- Wear tighter fitting tops, especially as a beginner. You do not want the fabric from your tops and bottoms to get tangled up in your hoop.
- Cotton, linen and hemp are fantastic choices for hooping. These fabrics have a sort of “stick” and will aid in keeping your hoop up. Wearing synthetic fabrics such as polyester, spandex or rayon are often too slick for the hoop to grasp and will cause excessive “slip.”
- Avoid hooping with jackets, bulky clothing, full pockets or loose jewelry. Again, you do not want to give your hoop anything to get tangled up on. These items can also interfere with your flow.
- Clothing items such as tank tops and booty shorts are fantastic for beginners as your skin will provide an EXCELLENT grip for the hoop!
Remember overall, to have fun! I tend to hoop in cotton pants and short sleeve tees, although I do wear whatever I feel comfortable in. Yoga tops and pants are terrific outfits for hooping.
